Far away from home I came to think about my friend
Hardly enough time to say good-bye until the end
I took a plane, he took the subway
With more friends along the way
I know it sounds corny, but my buddy is the best
The man likes film and music, I just know you´ll be impressed
He´s the most handsome man you´ve seen
Coincidently, he looks like me
Thinking back, we have always been partners in crime
When we were younger, we were grounded all the time
We stole cash from our mother´s purse
Our plans were always truly perverse
Growing up, we learned to smoke and curse and drink
We were so badasses, or so we used to think
Snuck back home, so late at night
Completely wasted on two Bud Lights
He traveled across Europe, with my friends last December
And saw so many places, some of which I can´t remember
We spoke over the phone on Skype
The entire family was overhyped
Left to our own devices, we will always find a way
To deal with poverty, boredom or anything you say
But until we meet again
I´ll just keep my hopes contained
A night at home is thick and long
My woes are black
And ache prolonged
I have these thoughts on hold
Whispering at night
Regrets untold
Trembling hands with fingers crossed
Type words I´ve forgotten
Thrown and tossed
You crafted your response
Seemed like a quiet
Place to bury your bones
Though parted by muted days
You found a way
To seem even further away
You couldn’t face the light
Left me your curses
Buried on my pillow
If the loving was not right
Why do my ships keep
Following your pale glow?
I followed planes across south seas
Came short of spite, came short of apathy
I walked along west scenery
And came across your memory
And thought the harbor air
Could ease my head
Of my despair
Now every walk alone
Reminds me of
The loving pain at home
